Autoliv, a global leader in automotive safety systems, and Mersen, a global expert in power systems and advanced materials, have announced a long-term alliance to jointly develop devices or devices that enhance the safety of electric vehicles.

Unlike the 12-volt power system used by traditional passenger cars, the current advanced electric vehicle power system voltage exceeds 500 volts. In the event of an accident, these high-pressure systems pose a greater risk of starting a fire, potentially causing personal injury to occupants and first responders.

The joint project between Autoliv and Mersen is dedicated to the production of high voltage disconnect devices, using Autoliv's proven safety switching technology for pyrotechnic devices and the integrated design concept of Mersen fuses to develop affordable product devices that can cut off power up to 1000 volts in milliseconds, preventing the dangerous spread of arc pulling.

"Autoliv and Mersen are committed to developing technologies that save lives." Jordi Lombarte, Chief Technology Officer of Autoliv, said: "Our two companies have more than 165 years of industry experience. Together, we are committed to improving the safety of electric vehicles, accelerating innovation, and applying our technology for the benefit of customers and society."
